Trauma
Have you experienced something difficult or traumatic that has been hard to move past, no matter how hard you try? Trauma can have a significant impact on our mental health, physical health, and how we engage in relationships and in our life in general. Oftentimes people think of trauma responses as flashbacks and nightmares, but trauma can also show up in our lives as sleep problems, irritability, anxiety, panic attacks, low self esteem, and relationship difficulties (among other things).
Trauma can be life-altering, but the negative effects of it don’t have to control your life forever. Trauma therapy can help to process and integrate the experience so that the effects of it don’t continue to impact your day to day life. This doesn’t mean the experience will be erased, because unfortunately that isn’t possible, but it can mean feeling less controlled by it and more engaged and empowered in your life. I am trained in and utilize EMDR as a treatment for trauma, and also integrate somatic processing exercises as a part of this as well.
